For Archana Singh, the world emerges from her color palette. Painted in muted colors, Archana Singh rhymes the emotions of what has been left behind through geometric patterns depicted in acrylics. Archana Singh’s journey as an artist, began in childhood; where she was deeply devoted to art, and had a passion for to look at the wonders of the vastness of the world.
Being the first in her family to pursue art, Singh had always been fond of the antiquity that surrounded her. She often found it waiting for her in corroded textures, dusty, aged objects and dull colors.
Starting her professional journey as a watercolor artist, she avoided fresh, bright colors, and often leaned towards muted, dull colors, forming her signature color themes evident in her work today. Based in the quaint, spiritual city of Banaras, Archana Singh prefers the old alleyways and natural elements of Banaras- a frequent inspiration for her work, the hum and buzz of the metropolis.
In one of her memorable anecdotes, Singh narrates how the yellow lights at the Ghats of the old city inspired her and made her relax to the warmth of its color. Often representing decay and architectural ruins in her work, Singh find that beauty is transcendental. It appears everywhere if one has the right perspective.
As an artist, she has managed to represent some of her ideas in her paintings; old ruins with their half-carved glory, leafless tress with curious form and textures and the nostalgia they bring along.
“ I am very picky about colors.”
Picking dull colors to convey a soothing effect by her visual presentations, she further believes that artists of all gender identities stand equal when it comes to their work. Inspired by the colors and compositions of Husain, Ara and Souza, Singh firmly believes in learning from other artists.
As a name stirring up in the world of Contemporary Indian Abstract Art, Singh held a solo exhibition at Triveni Kala Sangam in December 2025.
